Have you seen pictures of the Dolomites which have left your breathless and quickened your pulse?
The Dolomites are a dream of any mountainlover and a place for repeated visits. You know what the biggest problem is with this trip? That it's impossible to figure out what to leave out of the 7 day itinerary. As far as climbing, scenery and accessibility, you can speak of the Dolomites only in superlatives.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Cortina d'Ampezzo
You meet your mountain guide in the afternoon in Cortina at the pleasant B&B. After dinner, your mountain guide shows you the basics of via ferrata and the equipment you will use to ensure safety. Do take a hike in Cortina, but go to bed early, because Day 2 is an early wakeup.
Day 2: Innerkofler and Forcelle, Monte Paterno (2744 m) , Torre di Toblin (2617 m)
After breakfast, you travel by car and take a trip to Auronzo Hut (2320 m). You can see the southern faces of the Tre Cime.
The start of the ferrata is reached via the Lavaredo pass, leading to Monte Paterno. You can go all the way to Torre di Toblin. You get the best views of Tre Cime from this spot. The descent around the Holy Trinity will provide great views.
Day 3: Ivano Dubona Via Ferrata, Marino Bianchi Ferrata, Cima di Mezzo (3154 m)
On your second Dolomite via ferrata, you will cross the most famous spot of the Dolomites - the cable-bridge from the Cliffhanger movie. You will start the tour at 2215 meters where you use a chairlift and take a ride to the Lorenzi hut. You will ascend to 2932 meters in just under 20 minutes with the cable car, from where Marino Bianchi ferrata takes you to the Cime di Mezzo summit.
You take the same route back to the refuge (Lorenzi) from the summit. You take a different route to reach the cable bridge.
Day 4: Giovanni Lipella Via Ferrata, Tofana di Rozes (3225 m)
You are going on one of the most exhilarating and scenic ferratas. From the Dibona refuge, a trail takes you to the entrance of a cave, once used as a shelter for Austro-Hungarian and Italian soldiers in WWI. The path in the cave makes a 150 meter ascent.
You make your way through ruins of WWI as you are inching towards one of the highest and most stunning summits of the Dolomites. It's a tough climb here, but well worth the effort.
Day 5: Albino Michielli Strobel Via Ferrata - Punta Fiammes (2240m)
Be ready for a 600 meter climb today! You’ll ascend the Strobel ferrata, which is a popular one in the Cortina area.
The ferrata starts on a wide ledge, where you put on your harness and via ferrata set. This ferrata is a fine mixture of all kinds of terrain: ridges, vertical walls, crags. You will get a great view of Cortina from the top. The way down follows an easy trail.
Day 6: Giuseppe Olivieri Via Ferrata- Punta Anna (2731m), Tofana di Mezzo (3244m)
We've saved the best and biggest for the last. What makes the Punta Anna climb fantastic is the majestic view of the south wall of Tofana di Roses. If weather and your stamina permit, you will ascend to the top of Tofana di Mezzo (3244 m) by using the Gianni Aglio ferrata. A cable car will take you back to the valley after summiting.
Day 7: Departure for Home
That is it; your intro to the Dolomites. We will try to give everything out of these mountains that you wish.
